Quotes from the Author Visit:

I enjoyed the story and illustrations as well as finding out about the history of mining.
Freya Harris

Her other books looked like they might appeal to readers of all ages too.
Millie McMilne

I liked the fact that her own dog is part of her stories. It gives her books a ‘theme’ which younger readers would like I think.
Alfie Arnold

Seeing the illustrations on the big screen helped with the understanding of the story. I also liked how it rhymed, this makes it a good story to read aloud and listen to.
Harry Hamilton

The way it told the story of the history of the mining lamp and the invention that helped miners work more safely made it more interesting than just a history book.
George Grahams

Assistant Head - Hayes School

“Dear Jenny, as promised, here is some feedback from some of our members of staff”

Year 3 teacher: "I thought she was brilliant - she seemed really confident and it was lovely that she could tell her story from memory rather than reading it. It was also nice to have the the book on the screen so all of the children could see".

Year 6 TA: "I enjoyed the way she explained the process of actually making a book, from the writing and editing to publishing. I think it gave the children a good insight as to how to go about it, should they be interested in doing it themselves.

Plus, the backstory was very interesting too".

Year 2 TA: "She was very confident and interacted with the children well in Years 1 and 2. She explained well about her book and why she had decided to write it".

Year 1 teacher: "I thought she was really good. She had a lovely manner speaking to the children and kept them engaged throughout by asking questions etc. The only pointer I could give was that some of the story contained concepts that the children weren’t familiar with (mining etc) and so some questions or discussions went over the younger ones heads a little bit. However, that being said, the children all said they enjoyed the visit and the story and it has given us something to discover more about  in class".
